11 Things You Should Know About Me

Now that I've started this new venture, I need to properly introduce myself. So in an attempt to let you get to know me, here are 11 things you need to know about me as we go into this blog, together because top-10 lists are so yesterday.

This is the second time I've done something like this, I did one a few weeks ago for my Facebook page. So my Facebook friends might have seen some of these before.

  1. I am a fifth-year senior at SIU-Carbondale and will start his third semester at the Daily Egyptian, SIUC's student newspaper. This semester I will serve as the Sports Editor, and to be honest, I'm anxious and excited at the same time. So if there are a lot of sports related posts, that's why. And if there are long periods between postings, that's why. It's a demanding job, especially for a full-time student and I love it.
  2. I love sports more than anyone should, and sometimes I don't know why. Those close to me would argue that my one true love is the Chicago Cubs and I don't think there's an argument against that. The Cubs represent the concept of love in a nutshell: the potential to be an eternal connection followed by disappointment and heartbreak.
  3. I like to cook. Most college guys live fast food, and while I love me some fast food, I love me a home cooked meal. My expertise is cooking anything that can be made on the grill, deep fried chicken and deserts such as coconut cake and cheesecake ... oh and yellow cake with chocolate frosting.
  4. It is a smart idea to keep me away from a karaoke machine when I'm intoxicated. I love to sing and act a fool in front of groups of people, which is a stark contrast from someone who considers themselves to be shy. I love to karaoke love songs, especially songs by Boyz II Men, Marvin Gaye and Barry White.
  5. I love chocolate cereal. Cocoa Puffs, Coco Krispies, Cocoa Pebbles, Cookie Crisp ... I love them all. I have also poured chocolate syrup into Wheaties just so I can have the chocolate milk in the end. Of course, the chocolate milk is the highlight when all the cereal is gone.
  6. A pretty girl can get me to do anything. Sad, but true ... but who isn't a sucker for love. A girl with bright eyes and a sparkling smile could make me melt like an ice cube in a desert heat.
  7. I am an only child. To be honest, it's a gift and a curse but I wasn't spoiled like the perception of most only children. I had to work for everything I got and I was blessed to get a lot of stuff as an only child. However, when I got in trouble I would have loved to blame it on a little brother or sister and get off free.
  8. My buddies and I have our own dance and it's called "The Dance." It combines several dance moves including the motor bike, brush your shoulders of, the Ray Lewis dance and some original moves such as "PLIES!!!" and "The OJ."
  9. I love road trips, especially when they are sports related. I went to Youngstown (Ohio), Springfield (Mo.), New York and Indianapolis last semester and plan on going other places this semester.
  10. I have 4,263 songs on my iTunes. Genres include alternative, classic rock, country, hip-hop, pop, oldies, r&b, salsa, etc. I don't discriminate on music and have some guilty pleasures that no person should have.
  11. So with No. 11 I present to you 11 random songs as presented by the shuffle feature on my iPod Touch. Girlfriend Remix ('N Sync), Thunderstruck (AC/DC), I'm Yours (Jason Mraz), Jesus Walks (Kanye West), Suavemente (Elvis Crespo), Big Poppa (The Notorious B.I.G.), Let's Get It On (Marvin Gaye), Kiss (Prince), Faith (Limp Bizkit), This Love (Maroon 5), Gin & Juice (Snoop Dogg).
